METRO VANCOUVER

Building community in Metro Vancouver

Bringing people together through programs that promote connection, well-being, and shared purpose

Strong communities are the foundation of meaningful change. In Metro Vancouver, our work focuses on creating spaces for connection, participation, and shared responsibility. Through local programs and volunteer engagement, we bring together individuals across generations to support well-being and contribute to initiatives that have impact both locally and beyond.

Local action, global goals

Vivek Canada serves as a platform for engagement bringing together youth, families, and seniors to participate in meaningful activities that strengthen community bonds. Our local work reflects the same values that guide our global efforts: partnership, inclusivity, and long-term impact. Rather than one-time events, we focus on sustained engagement that builds relationships and fosters a sense of community.

How we engage

Our programs and initiatives are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and community-driven. We focus on:

  • Encouraging volunteerism and participation

  • Creating opportunities for intergenerational connection

  • Supporting youth leadership and involvement

  • Building awareness of global social issues

These efforts help foster a sense of responsibility, belonging, and shared purpose.

Dawn to Dusk Program

In 2024, we started a local program Dawn to Dusk, for youth (between the ages of 15-25) and seniors (55+) living in Metro Vancouver.

This program has brought together South Asian youth and seniors through activities that promote volunteering, well-being, connection, and
shared learning.

By creating space for intergenerational engagement, the Dawn to Dusk program supports well-being while strengthening community ties.

Youth mentorship

Youth participants engage through activities, volunteering, and leadership opportunities. The youth cohort of our Dawn to Dusk program contributes through participation, volunteering, and shared learning experiences. Together with their Elders, they help build a program that reflects collaboration, inclusion, and intergenerational connection.

Community engagement
and events

Community events and initiatives provide opportunities for people to come together, participate, and collectively make a difference. These gatherings foster connection while supporting awareness and engagement with broader social initiatives.

Youth scholarships

In 2019 to promote gender equality and empower local youth, Vivek Canada awarded two scholarships of $1,000.00 each for two female students of South Asian heritage enrolled in a post-secondary institution in B.C.

Youth leadership council

Young members of our community play an active role in shaping our programs. Working alongside seniors and community members, the council contributes ideas, provides input, and helps
guide the design and delivery of initiatives such as the Dawn to Dusk program. This collaborative approach ensures that our programs reflect real community needs and perspectives
across generations.

Connected to a broader mission

Our work in Metro Vancouver is closely connected to our initiatives in rural India. Through engagement, awareness, and participation, our local community contributes to a broader effort focused on education, sustainable development, and well-being. This connection reflects a shared commitment to community-driven impact across different contexts.
